Venus Sign Calculator
Find your Venus sign with your birth date. In astrology, Venus describes how you love, what you value, and what you find beautiful. This calculator uses the tropical zodiac of Western astrology, computing the position of Venus for 12:00 UTC on your birth date.
Enter your birth date above to reveal your Venus sign.
Method: Paul Schlyter’s low-precision planetary algorithm, tropical zodiac (equinox of date), positions computed for 12:00 UTC on the birth date. Sign placement verified against NASA JPL Horizons ephemeris data. Birth-date-only input gives sign-level accuracy; the exact degree within the sign is approximate.
What your Venus sign says about love and values
Ask anyone who knows a little astrology and they will tell you the Sun sign is only the beginning. Venus, the bright morning and evening star, is the planet astrologers associate with affection, attraction, money habits, and personal taste: how you love, what you find beautiful, and what you consider worth your time. This Venus calculator reveals which zodiac sign Venus was traveling through on your birth date, using a real astronomical position calculation.
Venus never wanders far from the Sun in the sky, which is why your Venus sign is always the same as your Sun sign or one of the two signs on either side of it. Even so, that narrow range matters enormously in astrological interpretation. A Sun in Leo with Venus in Virgo is read as a very different romantic creature from a Sun in Leo with Venus in Leo. Venus also goes retrograde roughly every 18 months, which can keep it in one sign for several months, so birth dates close together can still yield different placements.
This calculator is free, needs nothing but your birth date, and explains exactly how it gets its answer.
How to use the calculator
You will find the calculator at the top of this page. Three quick steps:
- Enter your birth date. Pick it from the calendar or type it as YYYY-MM-DD. Dates from 1900-01-01 through 2100-12-31 are accepted.
- Get your Venus sign. The tool computes Venus’s position for noon UTC on that date and shows the sign plus the degree within the sign.
- Read the interpretation. Every result includes a short traditional-astrology interpretation of Venus in that sign, touching on relationships, values, and aesthetic style.
Nothing is stored or sent anywhere. The whole calculation happens on your device.
How it works: orbital mechanics behind the romance
Under the hood, the calculator runs Paul Schlyter’s “How to compute planetary positions,” a low-precision Keplerian orbital-elements technique. Here is the idea in everyday language: Venus travels a near-circular orbit around the Sun, and astronomers know its orbital shape, tilt, and speed very precisely. Starting from those known elements, the method fast-forwards the orbit to your birth date, solves Kepler’s equation to locate Venus along its orbit, converts the Sun-centered position to an Earth-centered view, and reads off the ecliptic longitude. That longitude maps directly onto the twelve signs.
The method was cross-checked against NASA JPL’s independent Keplerian element sets and validated against JPL Horizons reference positions, with a maximum deviation of about 0.0135 degrees for Venus, which is comfortably under one arc minute. Because Venus moves only around a degree per day, the sign is rock solid for the entire birth day except within arc minutes of a sign change, so you do not need your birth time.
A note on zodiac frames, which the tool also states in its interface: the calculation yields longitudes referred to the equinox of the date, which is the tropical zodiac used by Western astrology. If your practice is Vedic and you want the sidereal frame, our Sidereal Natal Chart calculator is the one to use.
Worked example
Enter a birth date of June 30, 2020 and the calculator returns Venus in Gemini at 5.8 degrees.
Traditional astrology reads Venus in Gemini as a placement that loves with its mind first. The classic interpretation points to curiosity in relationships, a need for lively conversation, attraction to wit and variety, and a taste that leans playful and eclectic rather than heavy and dramatic. In money and aesthetics, this Venus is said to favor smart purchases and changing styles over one lifelong look.
Every result follows this same pattern: the planet, the sign, the degree within the sign to one decimal place (truncated, never rounded up), your birth date echoed for confirmation, a two to three sentence interpretation written in the traditional style, and a method note naming the algorithm and the tropical frame. The position is real astronomy; the meaning drawn from it belongs to astrological tradition and is offered for reflection and entertainment.
Frequently asked questions
What is a Venus sign?
It is the zodiac sign the planet Venus was in at the moment of your birth. In astrology it is linked to romance, attraction, harmony, friendship style, artistic taste, and attitudes toward money and pleasure.
How does the Venus calculator find my sign?
It computes Venus’s geocentric ecliptic longitude for 12:00 UTC on your birth date with the Schlyter Keplerian orbital-elements method, then converts the longitude into a tropical zodiac sign and reports the degree inside that sign, truncated to one decimal.
Do I need my birth time for an accurate Venus sign?
No. Venus moves slowly enough that your sign is the same all day, except in the unusual case of being born within arc minutes of Venus entering a new sign. The date alone is enough.
Why is my Venus sign never far from my Sun sign?
Because Venus orbits between Earth and the Sun, it always appears near the Sun in our sky. It can only ever be in the same sign as your Sun or in the two signs adjacent to it. That is astronomy, not an astrology rule.
How accurate is this calculator?
The calculation core was validated against NASA JPL Horizons reference data for Venus: all five test dates matched the reference sign exactly, with a maximum longitude deviation of about 0.0135 degrees.
Why does it say tropical zodiac?
The astronomical method naturally gives longitudes referred to the equinox of the date, which is exactly the tropical zodiac frame Western astrology uses. The sidereal zodiac used in Vedic astrology is offset from it by roughly 24 degrees due to precession, which can shift results by a sign. The tool names its frame so you know what you are looking at.
